Birmingham Cabinet decision 24 October 2005

Birmingham City Council's Cabinet agreed the following:

That the Cabinet:

a) note the wider context within which transport developments should be considered (sections 5.1­- 5.6);

b) note the conclusions of the City Centre Tunnel Study as set out in section 5.11;

c) agree a long term strategy for Midland Metro development in the city centre with street running and tunnels in combination as set out in section 5.12;

d) agree to working closely with West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority (WMPTA) on taking forward the Birmingham city centre metro extension to Edgbaston;

e) advise WMPTA that the city would wish to progress the Airport/NEC route as a priority for the Metro Phase II network development;

f) advise WMPTA that the City would also wish to progress Varsity North route along with a north­ south city centre tunnel to link to the Airport route, together with the Quinton (Hagley Road) route linked to Eastside;

g) requests Centro to develop an initial outline business case (lOBC) in partnership with the City Council;

h) approves the final cost of the studies including financial advice, set out in section 4.3.

i) approves the establishment of a joint Member steering group as outlined in section 5.15.
