5,138 responses were obtained in the consultation of residents in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, Walsall, Sandwell and Wolverhampton. The consultation was run by Swift Research Ltd and involved the distribution of a questionnaire to the general public in free newspapers that had coverage of the relevant West Midlands regions and by direct mail to a group of stakeholders.

The aim of the consultation was to establish whether the main principles of the Provisional Local Transport Plan Strategy are still relevant.
